Recycling Used Motor Oil and Filters

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It just gets dirty and can be recycled, cleaned, and used again. Before you change your oil, look up the recommended oil change interval for your vehicle on checkyournumber.org or your owners’ manual, as most do not need an oil change every 3,000 miles. Fewer oil changes saves time, money, and the environment. And remember, never pour oil down storm drains, in gutters, onto the ground, or in trash cans (even in a sealed container). It can contaminate and pollute soil and rivers.

There are two convenient ways to recycle used motor oil and filters for free:

• Certified Collection Centers (CCC) such as Autozone,O’Reilly Auto Parts, and others (including area transfer stations) can take used motor oil from the public. Most centers will take up to 5 gallons at a time.
• Take used motor oil and filters to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located on Taylor Drive in Ukiah. Please check our EVENTS CALANDER for changes to our regular HHW collection schedule

NOTE: Never contaminate used oil by mixing with other auto fluids, solvents, paint, or cleaners.
